Fraud Prevention in the Produce Supply Chain

November 25, 2025

Fraud in the produce industry is on the rise, evolving rapidly and exploiting the very qualities that have long defined our business—speed, trust, and relationship-driven transactions. From impersonation schemes and shell companies to double brokering and cyber theft, deceptive activity has escalated across the supply chain, costing companies millions each year and threatening the integrity of perishable trade. With impersonation fraud alone increasing four-fold from 2024 to 2025, it’s clear that proactive prevention is now essential to protecting growers, shippers, and distributors alike.

In response, Blue Book Services facilitated and led a coalition of industry experts from, TIPA, IFPA, DRC, and other leading organizations to create A Guide: Fraud Prevention in Produce - a practical resource designed to help companies recognize red flags, strengthen verification processes, and implement safeguards that protect against loss.

By working together, sharing information, and reinforcing trust through transparency, the produce industry can close the gaps that bad actors exploit and build a more secure, resilient marketplace for all.
